The Lord saw that Johnnie Calvin was getting tired, so he entered into a peaceful Eternal rest on March 15, 2017 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC. Johnnie Calvin Rutherford was born on September 13, 1956. He was the beloved only child of the late Johnnie Copeland “JC” and Eva Mae Robinson Rutherford.

He was the oldest grandchild of the late Deacon Johnnie H. and Mary Lizzie Alston Rutherford and Arthur and Verniea Boyd Robinson.

He was a 1975 graduate of Mid-Carolina High School. After high school graduation he attended and graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel School for auto mechanics. Early in life, he worked with Norfolk Southern Railroad Company. He learned the logging trade from his father and took over the family business later in life. Johnnie Calvin also worked as a bus operator with the Newberry County School District.  He was currently employed as a machine operator at Colombo Energy in Greenwood, SC. 

In honor of Johnnie's loyalty and service, the CEO of Colombo Energy has authorized the company flag to be flown at half-staff during the breavement period.

He was in the U. S. Army National Guards as guardsman. Johnnie Calvin was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Meridian Lodge # 9.

He was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Pomaria, SC.  He was currently serving as a trustee. He was always willing to help out wherever needed at the church. Johnnie had a great love for life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, loved cooking out and stayed working on a car or two. He will truly be missed by all that knew him.

Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories include his faithful and devoted companion for 31 years, Carolyn A. Rogers of the home; four sons, Kalvin Sims of Pomaria, Matrice Sims, Javonte Rutherford, and Obadiah Rutherford all of Newberry, SC; three grandchildren; five aunts, Mary R. Chapman of Columbia, SC, Brenda Jean Robinson and Linda Faye Robinson of Pomaria, SC; Bessie R. Bookman (Richard) and Glenise Rutherford of Newberry, SC; seven uncles, Reverend Derry (Elizabeth) Rutherford and James Sims of Columbia, SC; Jeffie (Bennie) and Joe Louis (Shirley) of Pomaria, SC; George (Annie Mae) and David (Saundra) of Newberry, SC; Donald (Elizabeth) of Prosperity, SC; a loving extended family to include two “daughters-in-love” Hope V. Sims and Jameka (Robert) Glymph and their children who affectionately refer to Johnnie Calvin as “papa ”; and a host of cousins and sorrowing friends.

Funeral service and burial will be conducted 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Pomaria, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service).
