Mr. Sammie David Summers, Jr.

March 7, 1939 ~ August 18, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old


Mr. Sammie David Summers, Jr., affectionately known as “Pint” and “Uncle Dad”, was born on March 7, 1939, in Little Mountain, South Carolina, to the late Mr. Sammie David Summers Robinson and the late Mrs. Minnie Lee Tobe Robinson. He was reared in the home of his late grandparents, Mr. Claude “Champ” Clark and Mrs. Jessie C. Clark. He entered into Eternal rest on Friday, August 18, 2017.

Sammie received his education in the public schools of Newberry County, attending Rikard Elementary and Gallman High School. After leaving school he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for several years, until he received an honorable discharge and moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey. He retired from Gibson Industries. Upon retirement, he moved back home to Little Mountain, South Carolina, and worked at Wal-Mart stores.

He was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Little Mountain, where he attended regularly until his health declined.

One brother, Claude Mayers; two nephews, Tony Keith Price and Jeffrey Mayers; and a brother-in-law, Virgil G. Price, preceded him to Heaven.

Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories include a daughter, Loretta Summers of New York, NY; a grandson, De’John Summers of Bronx, NY; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Alice Summers Burton (Isaac) of Little Mountain, SC, and Mrs. Loretta Price of Chapin, SC; one aunt, Mrs. Mildred Tobe Sumner of New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Imogene Mayers of Little Mountain, SC; eleven nieces and nephews, whom he loved as his own children, including Theodore Summers (Brenda) of Springfield, NJ, Barbara Bowers (Larry) of Chapin, SC, Linda Davis (William) and Elmer Frank Summers, both of Columbia, SC, Pamela Parks (Larry) of Jonesboro, Georgia, Ronald Price of Chapin, SC, Virgil Price (Sandra) of Ellenwood, Georgia, Robert Summers (Genice) of Irmo, SC, Kelvin Summers (Barbara) of Oak Ridge, TN, Ivy Tucker (Brian) of Roselle, NJ, and Trani Price (Davida) of Chapin, SC, all reared in the home; other devoted nieces and nephews; a devoted cousin, Carolyn Boyd; a devoted friend, O’Neal Mayers; a devoted caregiver and niece, Angela Mayers; and many other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom will truly miss him.

Funeral service will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, 388 Mountain Street, Little Mountain, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service). Interment with Military rites will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery (4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229).
