Mr. William Mark Long entered into the arms of Jesus on Friday, October 16, 2015. Born April 4, 1944 in Newberry County, fourth of seven children, he was a son of the late Mr. George Robert Long, Sr. and the late Mrs. Jessie Bell Reeder Long.
Mr. Long attended the public schools of Newberry County.
At an early age, he was a member of Saint Matthew African Methodist Episcopal Church in Newberry, South Carolina where he enjoyed worshipping with his family. In 1960 he migrated to Baltimore, Maryland.
Prior to his declining health in 1970, he was employed as a chef.
Mr. Long was a dedicated son, a loving father, brother and uncle.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Willie Harrison Long, John Earl Long and Oscar David Long.
Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories are two sons, Terry Wicker (Doris) and Bobby Lindsay all of Newberry, SC; six grandchildren, Valencia and Terrilyn Wicker, Ebony, Kayla, Fantayshia and Shaheme Lindsay; three great grandchildren; one brother, George Robert Long, Jr. of Gaithersburg, Maryland; two sisters, Lizzie Long Smith of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Isabella Long of Newark, Delaware (with whom he lived); three sisters-in-law, Lathonia Long of Newberry, SC, Gail Long of Charlotte, NC and Fannie Long of Baltimore, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service and burial will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Saint Matthew AME Church (6875 SC Highway 219, Newberry, SC) (across from Willingham and Sons Building Supply). (Viewing one hour prior to the service).
