Mrs. Brenda Kay Jones

Mrs. Brenda Kay Bates Jones entered Eternal rest after a lengthy illness on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC. Born in Prosperity, SC, on October 23, 1950, she was the beloved daughter of Claude and Julia Mae Bates, who both preceded her into eternal life.

She was a devoted wife to David W. Jones, Jr., for forty-four years. Brenda Jones attended Rikard Elementary School in Prosperity, and graduated from Gallman High School in Newberry, SC. She worked in the textile industry for thirty-one years, mostly at the American Fiber and Finishing Company.

Adored by her family, Brenda enjoyed many memorable times shared with loved ones. A devoted believer of the Lord Jesus Christ, she attended Mt. Moriah and Shiloh A.M.E. Churches.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Felicia Y. Bates and a brother, Sylvester Bates.

Cherishing fond and loving memories include her dedicated husband and caregiver, David W. Jones, Jr. of Prosperity, SC; son, David Anton (Shunna) Jones of Spartanburg, SC; a sister, Shirley B. Scretchen of Ellenwood, GA; one brother, Claude E. Bates of Newberry, SC; two surviving aunts, Mary Ellen Rikard and Vera G. Young of Newberry, SC; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church in Prosperity, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service). Burial will follow in Shiloh A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Prosperity, SC.
