Mrs. Shirley Ann Bookman YoungJune 8, 1943 ~ December 8, 2016 (age 73)
Shirley Ann Bookman Young of Philadelphia was born June 8, 1943 in Little Mountain, South Carolina to the late Leroy Bookman and Louise Chatman Bookman.
She received her early education within the Newberry County Public School System. She met and married Booker T. Young then relocated to Philadelphia in 1972.
Shirley worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for twenty-five plus years at the Philadelphia Geriatric Center.
Shirley was a nurturer, a good listener with a strong personality as well as humorous. She enjoyed dancing, coloring and having a good time. She loved to cook, she loved to eat, and have a Pepsi every now and then. Some of her favorite pastimes were talking on the phone to friends and family, and watching what was happening on Cedar Park.
Shirley passed away on December 8, 2016 at Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia after a lengthy illness.
Left to cherish memories are two daughters, Monique (Warren) Bookman Washington of King of Prussia and Phelesia Chantae Bookman of Philadelphia, two sisters; Willie Lee Clark of Little Mountain, South Carolina, Cassandra (Charles) Bookman Young of Jacksonville, Florida; two brothers, Larry Bookman and Bruce (Geraldine) both of Little Mount South Carolina; 7 grandchildren: Scott Washington, Tashika Bookman, Scosha Washington, Tuesday Bookman, Scorey Washington, Sconya Washington and Tori Bookman; a great granddaughter Lincoln Bookman, very close friends Earl and Jean Brooks, friends of Cedar Park and Walnut Lane neighborhood and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Booker T. Young; son, Clarence Young; her siblings, John Bookman, Genesis Bookman and James Bookman.
Funeral service and burial will be conducted 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Mount Zion AME Church (388 Mountain Street, Little Mountain, SC)
