Reverend Almena Turner Jackson

June 26, 1925 ~ March 21, 2016 (age 90) 90 Years Old


Reverend Almena Turner Jackson, daughter of the late Mr. William Ervin Turner and the late Mrs. Sallie Wells Turner was born on June 26, 1925 in Newberry, South Carolina. She was in the company of two of her five daughters when she was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 21, 2016 at her home.

Almena’s early years were spent in Newberry, South Carolina. As a teenager, she migrated to Brooklyn, New York and found employment at Louie’s Candy Factory. On that job she met and married Otto Jackson. God blessed the young couple with seven children.

Almena, now a working mom decided to advance herself and her family. She got a job at Long Island College Hospital where she worked in several departments over the years. Almena bought a house in East New York, Brooklyn for her family, a house that the family still own. Almena then decided to further her education. She enrolled in Boys and Girls High School at night, where she received her high school diploma.

She is preceded in Heaven by her husband, Otto Jackson; two sons, George Thomas Jackson and Terrence Turner Jackson; a grandson, Carl Jackson Boyce, Jr.; brothers, Charles “Fat” Turner, Ervin “Shorty” Turner; sisters, Georgia Mae Turner Gillian, Thomasina Turner Crosson, Virginia Turner Crosson Todd Jones, Mattie Pearl Turner Gary and Geraldine Turner Jones.

 Almena attended a school where she became an Ordained Minister at New Enoree Baptist Church. After a serious illness she returned home to Brooklyn, New York. Our mother Almena leaves behind to cherish her memories are five daughters, Sally Ann Jackson Bentley, Marlene Jackson, Marylou Jackson Faust, Phyllis Jackson Kadiku, Michelle Lynn Jackson; 7 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services and burial will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 28, 2016 at New Enoree Baptist Church, 190 Dove Drive, Newberry, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service).
