Mrs. Azalean Jones Obituary

Azalean Jones entered eternal rest peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on February 8, 1942, to the late Peter Scurry and Lucille Cannon Scurry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Jones; sisters, Lizzell Davenport and Mattie Quattlebaum; son, William R. Jones; daughter, Valencia Jones; and granddaughter, Marion “Sakinah” Cola.

Azalean attended Ridge Hill High in Ridge Spring, SC. After marriage in 1958, she relocated to New York in the early 1960s, where she dedicated herself to maintaining her family and household, lovingly raising her children. She briefly worked for the NYC Housing Development, before starting her career as a Railroad Clerk for NYC Transit Authority in August of 1982. She served faithfully in this role until her retirement in February 2008, after which she returned home to Silverstreet, SC.

She was a faithful member of the Women’s Home Aide Society Lodge #57 and a former member of the Georgialina Red Hat Divas and the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), NYC Chapter.  Later, she joined Belmont Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health declined.

Azalean is survived by her son, Timothy Jones (Deloris), of Hyde Park, NY; daughters, Vanessa Jones, Coram, NY, and Lolita “Lisa” Jones, Silverstreet, SC; her brother, Johnnie Mack Scurry Sr. (Mary), Clinton SC; and sister, Mamie L. Hall, Silverstreet SC. She leaves behind grandchildren: Shawn C. Halsey, Shenise L. Halsey, Gavin K. Jones, Deanna A. Kratz; and great-grandchildren: Majestic V. Cola, Justice U. Cola, Ryleigh S. Halsey-Escobar, as well as nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

We will forever remember the way she reached out to help others. Her acts of kindness were heartfelt expressions of her immense capacity to care. Though she may no longer be with us, her legacy of love will continue to illuminate our lives. Her love and the countless lives that she touched will forever be a reminder of the power of love.
