Major Rex Maybin, USAF, Retired Obituary

Major Rex Anthony Maybin, USAF, Retired, entered into eternal rest at home on December 12, 2019, with his loving wife by his side, after a long battle with cancer.  He was born on December 23, 1958 in Newberry, South Carolina, the son of the late Mr. Alonzo Maybin and Mrs. Shirley G. Maybin. 

Major Maybin honorably served the United States Air Force and was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (First, Second, and Third Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Force Longevity Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, NATO Medal and Armed Forces Service Medal.  He was also awarded the Air Force Training Ribbon, Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Small Arm Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

After graduating from Newberry High School, he furthered his education at the University of South Carolina, where he was awarded his Bachelor's Degree in Science and was awarded his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Troy University.

He was employed at the time of his death by the South Carolina State Fiscal Accountability Authority, as the Manager of Professional Liability.

Major Maybin loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Major Maybin is survived by his beloved wife, Andrea Maybin, his two daughters, Ashley Maybin of Baltimore, Maryland and Soleil Maybin and her companion Melvin Sanders of Irmo, South Carolina, his son, Wesley Clark of Akron, Ohio, and his two grandchildren Jace Maybin and Ryleigh Sanders.  He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Shirley G. Maybin; two sisters, Phyllis M. Hunter of Newberry, SC and Mary D. Johnson (Brook) of Martin, SC; and his niece Hunter Cheek.  He was preceded in death by his father, Alonzo Maybin, his brother Army Master Sergeant Danny Maybin and his niece, Carlita Cheek.

He will be laid to rest at Fort Jackson National Cemetery (4120 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229) on Friday, December 27th at 10 a.m.  All are welcome to pay their respects.
