Mr. Eugene Pitt, Sr.

Eugene Pitt, Sr. was born November 6, 1937 to Christal C. Pitt and Mammie Obye Pitt. His mother died when he was young and his father, a longshoreman and gospel singer, taught Eugene and his many siblings and friends how to sing and harmonize.
 
Eugene began singing secular music on Brooklyn street corners in the 1950s. He sang in two local groups before starting the Jive Five. Eugene had an amazing music career for 60 years. In the mid 1980s, the Jive Five recorded  memorable jingles for the children's network, Nickelodeon. In addition to his love for music, Eugene played softball until the age of 60. He also loved playing checkers and chess.
 
Eugene married Emma Spencer which ended in divorce. Eugene had a 25 year relationship with the mother of four of his children, Renee Robinson, that ended in separation. For 28 years until his death, Eugene lived with his significant other, Evelyn Mickens.
 
Eugene Pitt was preceded in death by both of his parents, one child and seven siblings.
 
Eugene leaves behind seven siblings; Mildred Alexander, Margaret Atkins, Dorthea Dowling, Herbert Pitt, Juanita Rhodes, Unise Ann Pitt and Christa Pitt, ten children; Eugene Pitt, Jr., Sheila Pitt, Tamma White, Tawanna Davis, Kasey White, Starr Pitt, Eric Pitt, Lamont Pitt, Rashard Pitt and Shoshone Johnson, twenty-five grandchildren, nine great grand children and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Eugene Pitt was a well known and respected singer, songwriter, producer, father and family man that everyone who knew him loved him. May he rest in peace.

 Funeral service will be conducted 12:00 noon Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Royal Baptist Church Emporia, VA 23487. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens 715 Halifax St , Emporia, VA 23847.
