Mr. George Dewalt of 4028 King Street, Newberry, SC, son of the late Mr. Samuel Dewalt, Sr. and the late Mrs. Edna Mae Harmon Dewalt, was born August 24, 1948, in Newberry County, South Carolina. He entered into the arms of Jesus on August 1, 2017.

He was a dedicated member of Trinity A.M.E. Church in Newberry, SC, and served as a Steward Pro-Tem, class leader, member of the male choir, the usher board, Sons of Allen, President of the Sons of Aid, Lodge #6 and Master Mason of Mount Nebo Lodge #460.

He was a 1967 graduate of Gallman High School in Newberry, SC. In 1968 he was drafted into the Army and later he joined the National Guard in 1972. He was a proud Military gentleman for over forty years.

George was employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad for thirty-one years until he retired.

A brother, John Willie Dewalt, and a sister, Carrie Mae Gray, preceded him to Heaven.

Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories include his wife, Evelyn Wroten Dewalt; one son, Gregory Tyrone Dewalt (Kyshon) of Newberry, SC; one daughter, Georgette Monique Dewalt of Newberry, SC; five grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; two brothers, Samuel Dewalt, Jr. and Robert Lee Dewalt both of Woonsocket, RI; two sisters, Doris Sheppard (James) and Mable Bouknight (Sammie) both of Newberry, SC; step-sisters, Willa M. Singley Brown and Hazel B. Singley Mangum, both of Newberry, SC and Sarah Singley Graham of Washington, D.C.; step-brother, Ernest Singley (Becky) of Newberry, SC; and nieces including a devoted niece, Cynthia Wallace, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home (4028 King Street, Newberry, SC).

Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Miller Chapel A.M.E. Church, 500 Caldwell Street, Newberry, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service). Burial with Military and Masonic rites will follow in Trinity A.M.E. Church Cemetery, 1338 Green Tree Road, Newberry, SC.
