Mr. Leroy Douglas Cook, Sr.

Mr. Leroy Douglas Cook, Sr., was born May 12, 1943, in Newberry County, SC, to the late Mr. A.C. Cook, Sr., and the late Mrs. Florine Kelly Cook. He entered into Eternal Rest on August 25, 2017, at his home, with his daughter, Jacqueline Dominick (Ray) by his side.

He was a member and served as a Trustee of Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Church in Newberry, SC.

Mr. Cook was a graduate of Gallman High School, Class of 1961.

After high school, he worked at Kendall Mill as a cotton inspector and retired after thirty years of service. Later, he became the owner of Fred’s Fish Market. He was also employed with Wal-Mart and Newberry Disability and Special Needs.

He was an avid fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

Mr. Cook was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Joe Nell Davis Cook; three brothers, Jerry Cook, A.C. Cook, Jr., and Freddie Cook; one sister, Agnes Cook Jones; sister-in-law, Marion Ann Cook; great-grandson, Caleb Penny; two nieces, Angela Jones and Tonya Cook.

Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories are three sons, Leroy D. Cook, Jr., of Newberry, SC, Darin Davis (Brenda) and Frederick Cook, both of Stone Mountain, GA; one daughter, Jacqueline Dominick (Ray) of Whitmire, SC; nine grandchildren, including four devoted granddaughters, Tangnakika C. Brooks, Amye Cook, Markela Cook and Rev. LaTasha C. Rutherford (Donald); fifteen greatgrandchildren; one brother, Mr. Ronald Wells (Jung) of Houston, TX; one aunt, Mrs. Jenelle Ruff of Newberry, SC; six brothers-in-law, Henry Davis, Phillip Davis, Solomon Nelson, Jr., Charles Davis, Billy Davis and Richard Jones, Sr.; sisters-in- law, Rosa Cook, Sarah Cook, Leslie Nelson, Tammy Nelson, Shelia Nelson and Rita Nelson; four nieces, Alfreda Nance (Kent) of Newberry, SC, Euconfra Corbit (Gordon) of Jacksonville, FL, Felicia Peters (Reginald) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Elaine Cromer (Johnny) of Columbia, SC; three nephews, Richard Jones, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Aavery Cook (Melody) of MD, and Tigerron Wells (Christine) of Columbia, SC; cousins; a devoted family friend, Rodney C. Whitener; a devoted classmate and best friend, Curtis Whitener Sims, of Berkeley, CA; and other loving, caring friends.

The family will receive friends at the home (9582 SC Hwy 34, Newberry).

Funeral service and burial will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Church (viewing one hour prior to the service).
