Mr. Mack Allen Obituary

Mr. Mack Willie Allen entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. Born on August 31, 1939, he was the eldest of five children born to the union of the late Mr. Willie M. Allen and the late Mrs. Fairbell Fortune Allen.

Mack was educated in the public schools of Newberry County and then migrated to Rhode Island to further his education. He graduated from Woonsocket High School, in Woonsocket, RI. He enjoyed listening to gospel music and that is where he met his love, Doris, at a Gospel Concert. He was first employed at Uniroyal Tire Co., but found his passion in sales where he became employed by Western Auto and Hope Electronics. He always knew how to strike up friendly conversations with those he met and most importantly “making the sale”. After many years in Rhode Island, he relocated back to South Carolina in 1979, with his family. He became employed with Kmart Corporation as an Apparel Manager for twenty-five years until his retirement. Mack was a very dedicated and kind worker for Kmart Corp. His spiritual life exemplified itself with his work in the church. While at Little River Baptist Church, he diligently served as Adult Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent and Chairman of the Trustee Board. He later joined Holy Tabernacle, Inc., in Greenwood, SC, where he faithfully served as Deacon until his illness.

In addition to his parents, Mack was also preceded in death by a sister, Eula Glenn; brothers, James Allen and Ricky Kinard; mother-in-law, Ruby Lawrence; and grandson, Michael K. Allen, Jr.

He leaves to cherish precious memories, his loving wife, Doris J. Allen of the home; three daughters, Deborah Abney Nelson of Bowie, MD, Cheryl Wilson (Michael) of Newberry, SC, and Tamekia L. Allen of Silverstreet, SC; two sons, Michael Allen of the home and Reverend Kevin Allen (Sandi) of Woodruff, SC; a loving daughter-in-law, Desiree Allen of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren, Linwood and Bryan Nelson, Courtney, Bennett and Nicole Wilson, Ashley Brailsford, McKenzie Allen, Mikella Allen and Glenn Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jessie Frank Allen (Lucille) of Cross Hill, SC, and Charles L. Allen (Alberta) of Blythewood, SC; father-in-law, Arthur Lawrence of Providence, RI; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Goode of Norwood, CA, Debora Nealy and Donna Barnes both of Providence, RI; brother-in-law, George Glenn of Silverstreet, SC; two aunts, Ulersee Scurry Allen and Bessie Allen Chattman both of Woonsocket, RI; and a host of nieces, nephews including two devoted nephews, Terry and Justin Lawrence of Providence, RI, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home, 27487 SC Hwy 34, Silverstreet, SC.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019 at Little River Baptist Church in Silverstreet (viewing one hour prior to the service).  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
