Mr. Odus Brown Obituary

Mr. Odus Lee Brown was born in Prosperity, SC, on July 18, 1932, to the late Mr. Willie Brown and the late Mrs. Maybelle Moon Brown. He was the fourth of six children. He transitioned from this life into eternal rest on Saturday, April 6, 2019. Mr. Brown obtained a primary education in Newberry County Schools, but left early to work in the fields full time. He later worked in the sawmill industry. However, he worked the majority of his life at Newberry Mill, where he retired. Mr. Brown joined Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church at an early age. He loved his church and remained a dedicated member until he became ill. There he served as steward, a member of the senior choir and male choir, as well as a member of the Men of Faith. In the community, Mr. Brown worked tirelessly in many capacities. For years, he worked as a Boy Scouts Troop Leader. He was also President of the Burial Aide Society #391, President of the Sons of Aid Lodge #14, a member of the Sons of Aid Society #61 and a member of the Solid Rock Masonic Lodge #243. Mr. Odus Lee Brown should be recalled as a man who stood by his word. He enjoyed many pastimes that included hunting and fishing. He also liked sports and would often go to Mt. Olive ball field and Mid-Carolina High School to watch games. He would often be seen drinking Pepsi-Cola and eating peanuts. Nonetheless, he also loved his friends and his pick-up truck. He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Mrs. Eva M. Brown, and son, Mr. Travis L. Brown (Keisha), both of the home; six grandchildren, Shykeera Worthy, Tyquan Brown, Jamaya Brown, Brooklyn Brown and Carmilla Brown; one brother, Ralph Brown also known as “Bo-Pete” of Newberry, SC; two sisters, Mary Lee Stephens and Dora Mae Stephens, both of Prosperity, SC; one niece reared in the home, Ella Mae Mitchell; one brother-in-law, George Shealy of Lithia Springs, GA; three sisters-in-law, Queen Ruff of Little Mountain, SC, Lillie Harris of Lithia Springs, GA, and Annie Mae Berry of Charlotte, NC; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives will also honor his life.

The family will receive friends at the home, 24 Lamb Way, Prosperity, SC.

Funeral services and burial will be conducted1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Lower Mount Olive A.M.E. Church in Prosperity, SC.
