Mr. Rodell Sulton, Sr., son of the late Willie and Rilsia Bowers Sulton, was born September 14, 1931, in Little Mountain, SC. He departed this earthly life and entered into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at his home.
He was a dedicated member of Providence A.M.E. Church in Little Mountain, SC, where he served as a leader of the Male Chorus, Gospel Choir, Senior Choir and former member of the Steward Board. Mr. Sulton was a member of the Solid Rock Masonic Lodge #243, President of Sons of Aid Lodge #27, SC Veterans Combat Group as well as the American Legion Post# 193. After serving actively in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, Mr. Sulton married the late Evara Bowers Sulton on September 17. Mr. Sulton lived in Virginia and New Jersey but settled in Little Mountain, SC, his home.
He retired from Chapin Concrete after many years as a truck driver. His wife, Mrs. Evara Sulton; three sons, Rodell Sulton, Jr., Cardell Sulton and Steve Parker; one great-grandson, Laquan Parker, Jr.; along with his brothers and sisters, preceded him to Heaven.
Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories include three daughters, Vanessa Stukes, Mae Sulton and LaVonya Sulton-Brown (Motagus) all of Little Mountain, SC; a son, Kevin Sulton of Little Mountain, SC; twenty-one grandchildren, Eric, Laquan, Sr., Victor, Latorie, Telvin, Angelina, Rodney, Chicora, Nicole, Dustin, Jameal, Cardell, Jr., Cora, Dallas, Shakilah, Tai Reke, Monique, ShaLeighya, Zachary, Ryan and Treston; forty great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Jonas Emory Bowers (Nezzie) of Little Mountain, SC; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sulton Davenport of Columbia, SC, and Veria D. Clark of Little Mountain, SC; adopted son and daughter, Evans and LaVelma Toland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, including devoted cousins, James Monroe and Ann Mayers, Andrew and Velcenia Williams and Anthony and Shirley Williams; friends, including a devoted and caring friend, Betty Sue Kinard, all of whom grieve his departure but rejoice that he is now resting with the Lord.
The family will receive friends at the home, 131 Gardenia Court, Little Mountain.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chapin, SC. Burial will follow in Providence A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Little Mountain, SC.
