Mr. Thomas C. Davenport affectionately known as “Sporty”, entered into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC. He was born on December 26, 1929, in Prosperity, SC, to the late Mr. Howard Davenport and the late Mrs. Leila Mayers Davenport.
Mr. Davenport was a member of Lower Mount Olive A.M.E. Church in Prosperity, SC. He was a member of the Lower Mount Olive A.M.E. Church Male Choir, the Senior Choir for sixty-two years, a Trustee for fifty years and a Steward of the church.
He was educated in the Newberry County Schools. He was employed with Overnite Freight Trucking Company and retired after thirty-six years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Vera Mae Wise Davenport; a daughter, Dorothy Ann Holman Miles; a grandson, Thomas Franklin Manigo; a granddaughter, Erica Michelle Manigo Hayward; four brothers, J.C. Davenport, Jacob Davenport, Arthur Davenport and James “Gene” Davenport; and five sisters, Cora Dominick, Carrie Jones, Lucille Wise, Dottie Lee Brown and Mary B. Brown.
Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories are two daughters, Vivian Crandall (Jimmy) and Rosetta Stewart (Melvin) both of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Zebby Miles (KaTanya), Irania Miles, Christopher Smith, Sr., Melonie Stewart, Gabriel Smith, Jimmy McCants, Jarrett Crandall, Yolanda Crandall Baker and Marcus Stewart; great-grandchildren, Zebby Miles II, Eden Miles, Zhana Hayward, Joseph Hayward, Jr., Trinidee Hayes, Xaelon Swanson, Christopher Smith, Jr., Chrischahna Smith and Christian Smith; two sisters-in-law, Delores Wise Counts of Columbia, SC, and Anna Frances Wise of Prosperity, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at the home (2208 Surrey Street, Columbia, SC).
Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Lower Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, 2532 Wheeland School Rd, Prosperity, SC 29127. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
