Mr. Vernon Glenn Obituary

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” — Ecclesiastes 12:7

Mr. Vernon DeCastra Glenn entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 27, 2018. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on July 29, 1950, to the late Mr. Sam Glenn, Sr., and the late Mrs. Cleo Wilson Glenn. Vernon was a faithful member of Trinity A.M.E. Church in Silverstreet, SC. Mr. Glenn was a Steward of the Church, President of the Male Chorus, Class Leader, member of the Usher Board, Sunshine Club and former Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was also a member of the Sons of Allen. Vernon was affectionately known for his witty personality, his singing and above all his abundant love for his wife, Janet, and daughters, TaTa and Precious, and son-in-law, Michael Werts, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vernon affectionately loved both of his families, Glenn and Goudelock, which he considered as one. Mr. Glenn was a 1968 graduate of Gallman High School. He was one of the founders of the Order of The Eastern Star-Reeder Glenn Chapter. Following in his father's footsteps, Brother Vernon was a former Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, Secretary of Mt. Nebo Masonic Lodge No. 460 and was a faithful member for over forty-five years. Mr. Glenn was also a member of the Sons of Aid Society Lodge No. 57. Vernon retired from Kraft Foods (Louis Rich) in 2009, after thirty-eight years of service. Vernon was known for singing in the plant, making everyone smile, laughing and was known as the best Supervisor by many who worked in the same department. After retirement, Vernon enjoyed doing odds and ends around the house and community with his lovely wife. Vernon also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, singing, gardening and traveling. Vernon loved Trinity where he extended his angelic voice. Vernon was predeceased by two brothers, Leroy Wilson Glenn, Sr., and Clarence Wilson Glenn. Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories include his wife of forty-five years, Mrs. Janet Goudelock Glenn of the home; two daughters, Torchia Goudelock Werts (Michael) of Newberry, SC, and Tashma Glenn Glymph of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren, Mykia, Michael Rasheed, Marquis, Karter and Kirsten; two great-grandchildren, Kaleigha and Rian; five brothers, Luther Wilson Glenn (Mary) of Washington, DC, Anthony Glenn (Rev. Connie), Sam Glenn, Jr. (Glendora) and Dean Young, all of Newberry, SC, and Jerry Young of Columbia, SC; three sisters, Bertha Sheff (Mose) of Winston-Salem, NC, Dalhia Johnson of Forestville, MD, and Sheryl Glenn of Washington, DC; five aunts, Euzell Stepney and Dora Wilson, both of Woonsocket, RI, Annie Mae Wilson of Philadelphia, PA, Annie Smith of Norristown, PA, and Julia Davis of Fayetteville, NC; thirteen brothers-in-law; eight sisters-in-law; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins; three God daughters, Renita Goudelock, Courtney Werts and Terria Gray Watts; and friends, including three devoted friends, Larry Suber, James Werts and Tommy Werts. To know him was to love him and Janet. Vernon was a God fearing and caring man and will truly be missed by all.
