Mrs. Detra Dewalt Bookman

Mrs. Detra Dewalt Bookman affectionately known as “Dee” of 421 Shiloh Street, Prosperity, South Carolina, entered into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, June 8, 2019.

She was born in Newberry County on September 7, 1970 to Willie Earl Dewalt and Bessie Lee Dewalt. She received her education in the Newberry County School District.

She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as an usher, member of the Missionary Society and a Captain of the Rainbow Tea.

She was employed with Jessie Frank Nursing Home as a CNA where she was loved and respected.  She was preceded in death by two siblings, Patrick Dewalt and Tina D. Gallman.

Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories include her loving and devoted husband, Timothy James Bookman, two step daughters, Shameria and Shakayla Scurry of Newberry, SC; Loving Parents Willie Earl Dewalt and Bessie Lee Dewalt of Newberry, SC; a devoted mother-in-law, Johnie Mae Bookman of Prosperity, SC; one sister, Patricia Dewalt (Robert) of Newberry, SC; two brothers, Demetrius Dewalt of Prosperity, SC; Eric S. Dewalt (April) of Newberry, SC; uncles; aunts; four sisters-in law, Debra Wise (Craig) of Blythewood, SC, Samantha Bookman-Harper (LeVar) of Newark, NJ, Jennifer Bookman of Newark, NJ, Lisa Dickerson of Hillside, NJ; three brothers-in-law, Ray Oxner of Manhattan, NY, Bryant Bookman of Newark, NJ, Phillip Dickerson of Newark, NJ; and a host nieces, great nieces; great nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home, 421 Shiloh Street, Prosperity, SC.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Antioch Baptist Church in Prosperity. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
