Mrs. Doris C. Oxner entered into the arms of Jesus on Friday, May 4, 2018, at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Born October 15, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Miles Clark and the late Mrs. Elease Long Clark.
She received her early education in the Newberry, South Carolina school system and was a proud graduate of Gallman High School. Mrs. Oxner attended Friendship College in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and would later graduate from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Woman’s Home Aid Society Lodge No. 9 and the Rosette Bridge Club.
She was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess. Mrs. Oxner served on various committees and other organizations in the church. Professionally, Mrs. Oxner touched many lives throughout her employment. She was a dedicated educator to students in Georgia and South Carolina. She would go on to work for the South Carolina Department of Corrections as a correctional officer and later an employment counselor. She retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections after twenty-five years, and would serve as a substitute teacher for the Newberry County School District. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Clark; and a sister, Joe Ellen Irby.
Those celebrating her life and cherishing precious and loving memories, are a devoted husband of fifty-two years, George Oxner; a daughter, Kamela Oxner-West of Irmo, SC; two sons, Kelvin C. Oxner (Shamala) of Elgin, SC, and Major Jason C. Oxner of Minneapolis, MN; three brothers, Harold Clark and Robert Whitney both of Newberry, SC, and Miles Frank Clark (Jessie) of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Hazel D. Clark and Renethia Grines-Coleman (Thomas) both of Newberry, SC; five granddaughters, Sergeant Devin-Simone Oxner of Fayetteville, NC, Morgan Thompson-Oxner, of Irmo, SC, Xiomara Oxner of Walterboro, SC, and Jordin Brown Oxner of Mobile, AL, and Jayla Richardson of Elgin, SC; two grandsons, Xavier Oxner of Walterboro, SC, and Jamilo McFadden of Columbia, SC; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Wicker (Beamen) of Prosperity, SC, and Dorethea Russo of New York,NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, including two devoted cousins, Johnnie Mae Bookman of Prosperity, SC, and Maugerette Lake of Greenville, SC, in-laws and devoted friends, all of whom grieve her passing but rejoice that she is resting with the Lord.
Mrs. Oxner's funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Prosperity, South Carolina (viewing one hour prior to the service). Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Oxner Family welcomes visits (149 Angel Drive, Prosperity, South Carolina) and phone calls.
