On April 26, 2018, as the sun set and just at the close of another day, God dispatched his angels to camp around her beside so that she may leave her earthly home peacefully and arrive at her heavenly home to receive her just reward.
Mrs. Princetta R. Harris, widow of the late Albert R. Harris, Sr., born August 12, 1931 in Chapin, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Albert C. Ramey and late Earnestine Mayers & Eules Ramey.
Princetta was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her journey’s end. She was active in the Missionary Society, Senior Choir and Deaconess Ministry. She served as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She loved her Mt. Zion Baptist Church family dearly.
She attended the High School division of Harbison Junior College in Irmo, SC. She continued her education at Barber Scotia College in Concord, NC receiving a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education and Masters of Science in Education from North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro, NC.
As an educator, Mrs. Harris touched the lives of many in the schools and communities in which she taught. She taught school for 34 years. Spending four years in St. Paul City Schools in North Carolina and 30 years in Lexington 1 and Lexington – Richland School District 5. After retirement Mrs. Harris continued to substitute teach in classrooms in District 5 for nearly 15 years. She continued to mentor and tutor students in the community at the Hub Christian Life Center weekly. Professional affiliations include: National Education Association, South Carolina Education Association, and Lexington County Retired Teachers Association. She was inducted in the Chapin Hall of Fame in 1992. She had a love for teaching and helping children.
In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family, gardening, and shopping. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She shared the love of Jesus Christ everywhere she went and encouraged us all to “just keep praying”.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories; one beloved son, Albert (Alfreda) Harris, Jr.; three grandchildren, Marcus Metze of Chapin, SC, Marlena R. and Melanie C. Harris, both of Columbia, SC; one step-grandson, Marcus Morris of Chapin, SC; two great grandsons, Ty’Shane Metze of Blair, SC and Kaedyn Harris of Columbia, SC; one adopted sister, Zenobia Jones of Hampton, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Grace Mayers of Zion Cross, Virginia and Ruth Hook of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and many other relatives and caring friends.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chapin, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service). Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
