Mrs. Thelma Miller Sharperson Thompson entered into eternal rest on January 1, 2020 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was born in Prosperity, South Carolina on February 28, 1932 to the late Mr. Timothy Miller and the late Mrs. Arletha Mayers Miller. She began her early education in Little Mountain, South Carolina and continued in the public schools in Orangeburg, South Carolina where she attended Wilkinson High School. She also received her nursing assistant certification in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Over the years, she held various jobs and positions including being a life insurance agent. She spent most of career self-employed providing home health care for a number of elderly patients until her retirement. She was also an active member in New Gethsemane Baptist Church while living in Philadelphia as well Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chapin, South Carolina. She served faithfully until her illness on the Pastor’s Aide Ministry, Senior Choir Ministry, and the Missionary Society among others. She also volunteered at the Hub Christian Life Center doing various community service projects and received awards for those contributions to the local neighborhood.
She was married to the late Mr. Roosevelt Sharperson, Sr. for many years and to that union, they had four children Shirley (Mark) Miller Baldwin, Jackie (Maceo) Hood, Roosevelt (Tonya) Sharperson, Jr. and Trenia Bowers.
In 1975, she married the late Mr. Calvin Thompson. Together they formed a blended family which resulted in her gaining three sons Calvin (Tammy) Thompson, Jr., Marc Thompson and the late Barry Thompson. She had a tremendous love for children and thus after raising her own children, she and her husband fostered two children for several years.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Charlie Miller and Allen Miller.
In addition to being survived by her children, she is also survived by her brother Edward Miller and sister Mildred Knightner. She has nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, family and friends as well as two devoted caregivers Mae Sulton and Cynthia Stevens who will continue to celebrate her life and legacy.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chapin, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
