Rev. Joann Stevens Means of 943 Apt A. 943 Cline Street, Newberry, SC entered into the arms of Jesus on Monday, January 13, 2020 at her residence. She was born in Union, SC on April 24, 1951 to the late Mr. Benjamin Lockwood and the late Mrs. Essie Mae Stevens.
She was a member of James Hopewell Baptist Church in Newberry, SC.
Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories include her husband, James Otis Means of Newberry, SC; four sons, Chernoney Stephenson, Dayun Gates and Staphon Gates (Desiree) and Trey Senn, all of Newberry, SC; one step daughter, Shantal Smith of Newberry, SC; grandchildren; Jeleah and Jallah Stephenson, Khaliek Gates, all of New York, Kinley Smith of Prosperity, SC, Kevonte Gates of Union, SC Jernee Stephenson of Newberry, SC, Jordan Butler of Prosperity, SC and Dakari Gates of Newberry, SC; six brothers, Benny Lockwood of Hemstead, New York, Willie P. Lockwood of Newberry, SC, Joseph Gibson of North Carolina, Rodney Lockwood and Greg Lockwood of New York and Brandon Senn of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Shelia Scott of Texas and Gwendolyn Jackson of Maryland; two uncles, Larry Stevens (Tina) and Timothy Lake; five aunts, Dessie Hunter, Mary L. Stevens, Arelia Means and Laura Lake and Helen Lake; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins including a devoted cousin, E.J. Dawkins and five friends and family, Martha Wise, Connie Keller, Elicia Henderson, Debra Gary and Jessica Rivas.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at James Hopewell Baptist Church in Newberry, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
