Bernice Gary

Bernice Gary, affectionatly known as "Sugar Pie" and as "Momma" at the Trent Home where she resided. She departed this life on Monday, September 14, 2020 at the age of 73 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Eva Mae Gary Spearman.

Raised in Newberry, Bernice attended Drayton Street School and was very accomplished in doing arts and crafts, often giving them as gifts to her nieces and nephews and various other children during the holiday seasons.  She never met a stranger and had a loving and open personality.  She always looked forward to attending the Goudelock family reunion trips as long as her health permited.  She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Bernice was preceded in death by four sisiters; Eugenia Gary Cain, Sallie Mae Gary Hayward, Evelyn Spearman, and Carolyn Spearman Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory a sister; Eva Gary Goudelock (Charles) of Richmond VA; two brothers, Emory Gary of New York, NY and Alonzo Spearman of Richmond, VA; also one aunt Ethel Gary of Newberry, SC; two brothers-in-law, Timothy Cain of Sumter, SC and Arthur Hayward of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, newphews, cousins and other family members and friends.

There will be a graveside servive Sunday September 20, 2020 at 12:00 noon at Werts Cemetery in Newberry, SC.  The family ask everyone to wear a mask and observe proper social distancing.
