Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Bookman) Wheeler, 92, of Caughman Rd, Prosperity, S.C., entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 3, 2025, at her residence. Dorothy was born on February 13, 1932, to the late Mr. Lemuel Bookman and Mrs. Janet Lindsay Bookman.
She was a member of Mt. Moriah A.M.E. Church in Prosperity, SC. Mrs. Wheeler enjoyed going on vacation, cooking, dancing, and spending time with her family and Friends.
Mrs. Wheeler was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. James Wheeler, Jr., one son, Joseph Sims, a grandchild, DeSantel Wheeler, and multiple siblings.
Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious memories are six daughters, Janie Mae Sims of Prosperity, SC; Peggy Spearman of Lexington, SC; Josephine Wheeler and Jessie Mae Sims of Newberry, SC; Janette Wheeler-Simmons (Terrance) of Chapin, SC and Dottie Gray (Bennie) of Newberry, SC. Four sons, James Sims and Randy Wheeler of Newberry, SC, Terry Wheeler and Walter Wheeler of Prosperity, SC. Twenty-nine grandchildren, including one granddaughter and devoted Caretaker, Charlene Sims, were reared in the home; one Grandson, Terrance Gray, was reared in the home. Forty-three great-grandchildren, including two that were reared in the home, Chantel and Chavanti Robinson, and Twelve great-great-grandchildren. Three sisters; Annette Abney and Betty Jo Wilson of Prosperity, SC, Mary Hair of Newberry, SC; one brother James Bookman (Ada) of Newberry, SC; one sister-in-law Reverend Tina Bookman of Newberry, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held 1-6pm Saturday February 8, 2025, Wilson Funeral Home Newberry, SC.
Funeral Services and Burial will be conducted 1:30pm Sunday February 9, 2025, Mt. Moriah AME Church Prosperity, SC.
