On June 2, 1923, the lives of the late M.C. Boozer and the late Carrie G. Boozer of Newberry SC, changed as they welcomed their baby girl Ethel Boozer Gary into this world. Thursday August 29, 2024, in the early hours of the morning Ethel’s parents came back to this world to escort their 101-year-old daughter to her eternal heavenly home.
Mother Gary was a graduate of Drayton Street School. She was a licensed cosmetologist and salon owner for over 30 years. She retired from Oakland Mill and worked as a safety guard with The City of Newberry and at Newberry Mill.
Mother Gary was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a Mother of the Church; on the Usher Board and a member of The Willing Workers' Club. She was a member of The Ladies Aid Society #15, Ethel Mae Whitener, President.
Mother Gary was married to the late Emory Jerry Gary for 66 years and to this union 4 children were born: Curtis, Geraldine, Calvin and Gwen.
Mother Gary was the last living member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Emory Jerry Gary, her son, Calvin B. Gary, all her siblings, her son-in-law, James C. Bishop, a grandson, Gary T. Bishop, and a granddaughter, Felicia F. Gary
She leaves to cherish her legacy her children: Curtis V. Gary(Jacqueline) of Aiken, SC, Geraldine D. Gary, and Gwen G. Bishop, both of Newberry, SC; a niece reared in the home, Thelma J. Lyles(Leslie); her grandchildren: Kelvin L. Gary(Nicole), Antonio G. Gary, Shova M. Williams(Leon), Kelee Portee, Cheryl N. Howell(Jaime), Teresa S. Maybin (Theory) James O. Bishop, Kendall P. Bishop, Hope D. Gary, Anthony R. Lyles(Sheryl), Tonya G. Lyles-Dean(Duane) and Dr. Monica R. Robertson(Douglas); 39 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation Monday September 2, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the parlor of Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral Service 2:00 pm Tuesday September 3, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church, 121 Calvary Church Rd. Newberry, SC.
Interment will follow the service at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
