Mrs. Lena Mae Hawkins Richburg , daughter of the late Frances Hawkins and the late James Glasgow was born on March 24, 1933 , in Prosperity, SC. She entered into enteral rest on January 6, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Richburg moved to New York at a young age where she was raised by her mother and step father , the late Mr. George Hawkins. Lena completed her school years in New York as well. Shortly after that , she met her husband, the late Mr. Walter “ Monkey “ Richburg Sr. They got married and had 8 children. Mrs. Richburg started and managed a business with her husband before retiring and moving back to the south in 1982.
She was a member of Mount Moriah AME Church in Prosperity, SC where she was also a member of the Woman's Home Aid Society Lodge #23. Mrs. Richburg loved to cook , and spend time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Lena was predeceased by her husband Walter Richburg, her dear sister Ms. Racheal Hawkins , daughter Mrs. Francine Richburg Campbell, Sons , Walter “Tom” Richburg, Kenneth Richburg and David McBride. .
Those who celebrated her life with so many great memories is her devoted daughter Lisa Richburg of the home, daughters JoAnne (Eugene) Richburg of Snellville, GA and Lori Richburg of New York, NY. Sons, Darryl Richburg and Troy (Sharon) Richburg of Prosperity, SC. Two Brothers, Curtis (Sudie) Glasgow of Prosperity, SC and Joseph (Ruth) Hipps of Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Lena Mae was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 39 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great Great Grandchildren; sisters-in-law Sara Roberts of Cocoa, FL and Mae Lum of Pinewood, SC; a brother-in-law Orin Richburg (Telva) of Charlotte, NC. In addition, she leaves a devoted step son Mr. Walter “Jr” Richburg of Sacramento, CA, a host of loving nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends who will truly miss her.
Viewing will be Tuesday January 12, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be graveside at 1:00 pm Wednesday January 13, 2021 at Mt. Moriah AME Church in Prosperity, SC. The family request all to wear mask and observe proper social distancing.
