Mower L. Williams, also known as “Cadillac Bill” and “Willie,” was born September 12, 1928 in Newberry County, SC to the late Jimmie Thadeus Williams and Ida Mae Abney. On September 13, 2021, after a long and strong fight passed away in peace.
Mower was a man of valor and did anything and everything he could to help the next person, even if he had to give the shirt off his back. Mower attended Hannah School in Newberry County, where he left at an early age to work and help his family. In 1950 Mower became a member of the Masonic Lodge of Columbia, SC. He then migrated to upstate New York. While in New York, he worked hard and earned his position as a Superintendent of Middletown Psychiatric Hospital. Mower retired in April 1991. Also in the year 1991, he married his wife, Marion LaVerne Cuffie and he moved back to his hometown of Newberry, SC. After moving back, Mower started doing all types of side jobs including plumbing, electrical and auto repair. He knew it all.
Mr. Williams is preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, a grandson; Rajneesh Stevens.
He is survived by his wife; Marion Laverne Williams, three daughters; Julia Nelson of Maryland, Ojetta Williams of New Jersey and Shana Rae Williams of New York, a stepdaughter; Hilda Yvonne Hodges of New York, a stepson; Wayne Hodges, a son-in-law; Tony Cuffie, a devoted niece; Lucille P. Coleman and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 1-7 pm in the parlor of Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm on the lawn of Wilson Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Hanna AME Church cemetery.
