On Wednesday evening, January 24th 2024, God called Albert Ray Harris Jr. to his final resting place to be with his loving parents, family members and friends.
Born on January 6, 1955 in Lexington, South Carolina, Albert Ray Harris Jr. was the beloved only son of the late Princetta Ramey Harris and Albert R. Harris, Sr.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chapin, SC where he was a faithful member. He participated in the Mt. Zion Church Brotherhood and would assist anywhere needed in the church.
He graduated from Chapin High School, Class of 1973 where he excelled as a basketball star. Albert entered the workforce as a laborer at General Electric/MEPCO for many years as a machine operator. He retired from School District 5 of Lexington and Richland Counties in 2014.
Mr. Harris enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. He loved watching football and his beloved Oakland Raiders, basketball, and country westerns. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed cooking out, spending countless hours gardening and riding his tractor. He loved a good card game and being around the ones he loved. He had a charismatic personality and never met a stranger. He was well known and loved in the Chapin community.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories; two daughters, Melanie C. (LaQuindon) Harris of Chapin, SC, Marlena R. Harris of Columbia, SC, one son, Marcus C. (Constance) Metze of Irmo, SC; two grandsons whom he adored, Kaedyn Harris of Chapin, SC and TyShane Metze of Blair; one aunt, Grace Mayers of Zion Cross, Virginia; devoted cousins, Edith Jefferson and Samuel Patterson both of Chapin, SC; devoted friends Otis Trapp, Jr. of Blythewood, SC and Perry Joyner of Rock Hill, SC; sister in laws, Mary R. Chapman of Columbia, SC, Bessie (Richard) Bookman, Annie M. Rutherford, Glenise Rutherford, and Shirley Rutherford all of Newberry, SC; brothers in laws, Jeffie Rutherford of Pomaria, SC, David (Saundra) Rutherford of Newberry, SC, Donald Sr. (Elizabeth) of Prosperity, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 2 to 6 pm in the parlor of Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mr. Albert Ray Harris Jr. will be conducted on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Chapin, SC.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
