Mr. Broadus Sims

Broadus Sims was born on August 8, 1937, in Prosperity, South Carolina. 

 He departed this life on Monday, May 23, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Sims was a practical joker with a generous heart of gold, never hesitating to help family and friends out.  He was employed at (ADM) Archer Daniels Midlane Company for over 30 years in Elizabeth, NJ.  He also was a Housing Superintendent for over 20 years at the Emma Street Apartments in Elizabeth NJ.  He saved lives from a massive fire that took down an entire city block and was awarded for his bravery.  He lived vicariously through his grandchildren by taking them on long trips for summer vacations, giving them bubble gum, boiled eggs and would always take everyone to the mall and sit in the van patiently while they all shopped. He was always excited to attend family cookouts, parties, and enjoyed dressing in his suites and hats for all occasions.  He loved Cats, Dogs, WWE Wrestling and the NY Mets Baseball Team.

Mr. Sims is predeceased by his parents, Mr. Arthur Sims, and Mrs. Temple Wheeler Sims, his late wife Helen DeWalt Sims, great-great grandchild; Chosen Josiah Hammonds and his siblings; Leroy Sims, Ruby Lee Jackson, Arthur (June) Sims Jr, Pauline Hunter, Cecil Sims, Elbert (Sonny) Sims, Joseph Kreps, Elouise Davis, and Anne Rebecca Drake.

He is survived by his daughter; Annie Holmon, 2 sons; Rudolph (former Daughter-in-Law, Dr. Delores) DeWalt, Stanley (Brenda) Bates, one brother; Cornell Sims, 1 sister; Irene (Theodore) Ellison, one aunt; Dorothy Mae Wheeler, Grandchildren; Jowoy (Alicia) Holmon, Lashawn Holmon, Lashonda Holmon, Hellen Holmon, Lashonda (Joey) DeWalt, Lakeya DeWalt, Stella Williams, and Mark Sims, 11 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends who he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the church.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11 am in the sanctuary of Shiloh A.M.E Church, 431 Shiloh St, Prosperity, SC 29127

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
