Mr. Damon Jerod Hardy of 70 Wren Road, Newberry, SC passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Columbia, SC on May 20, 1978 to Mrs. Barbara Griffin Hardy Chapman and Mr. James Hardy.
Damon was a graduate of Newberry High School Class of 1996; where he participated in various sports which included football and track. Damon obtained his barbers license from Tolliver Barber College in Columbia, SC and was a self-employed professional barber for twenty-three years at Black Box Barber Shop II and Magic Cuts Barber Shop of Columbia, SC. His community service was an extension of his trade wherein he provided free haircuts throughout the community through summer camps and back-to-school events.
He was a member of New Enoree Baptist Church in Newberry, SC.
Damon was an avid fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Mr. Bruce “Pete” Taylor and
Mrs. Marie G. Taylor; maternal grandfather, Mr. Ulyeses Chaplin and maternal great grandparents, Mr. Eugene and Mrs. Bertha Griffin; maternal great grandparents Mr. Emanuel and Mrs. Janie Chaplin; paternal grandparents, Mr. James and Mrs. Ellen Hardy.
Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories include his wife, Kamonica Johnson Hardy of Gaston, SC; father, Mr. James Hardy of Farmville, VA; mother, Mrs. Barbara Griffin Chapman and step-father, Mr. Bobby Joe Chapman of Newberry, SC; two sons, Kobe Hardy of the home and Jaden Hardy of Columbia, SC; three daughters, Destiny Hardy of Columbia, SC, Chance Hardy of Gadsden, SC and Damon LaBarbara Hardy of Columbia, SC; one brother, Christopher Metts of Chapin, SC; one sister, Rachael Tina Wright-Everett of Columbia, SC; grandmother, Mrs. Willie Margaret Chaplin of Newberry SC; four uncles, Rudy Williams of Newberry, SC, Leon Hardy of Farmville, VA, Samuel Wright of Norwalk, Conn. and Kelly Hardy of Marietta, GA; five aunts, Brenda Chaplin Williams, Margaret Lynn Chaplin, Glenise Chaplin Rutherford, Connie Spearman Williams all of Newberry, SC and Brenda Taylor-Wright of Norwalk, Conn.; and a special nephew Sir. Oliver Everett (Las Vegas, NV), and Nicholas Sims-Metts and a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Bethlehem
Baptist Church (1501 College Street, Newberry, SC). Burial will follow in
Newberry Memorial Gardens. Due to current health concerns, the family ask that you wear a mask and observe social distancing requirements.
