Mr. Elliott T. Lyles, 74, son of the late John and Beachie Lyles was born on June 4, 1949 in Newberry, SC. He departed this life on Monday, September 4, 2023 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Lyles was a 1967 graduate of Gallman High School, Newberry, SC and later furthered his education by attending Virginia Wesleyan University, Virginia Beach, VA. He honorable served our country for two years as a Vietnam Veteran with the United States Navy and retired as a Social Worker for the Department of Social Services, Newberry, SC.
Mr. Lyles was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, Newberry, SC where he served as a member of the Trustee Board prior to his illness. He was also a devoted musician at Belmont Baptist Church in Silverstreet, SC.
Elliott was a very friendly, caring and sincere person, who touched the lives of many people. He was soft spoken and dedicated to his family. His expertise and dedication to music was greatly admired by fellow musicians and colleagues. He toured as a professional musician and cherished the camaraderie and friendship of the people he met throughout the nation.
Memories will be cherished by two sons, Elliott Lyles Jr. (Lex) and Christopher Lyles of North Bethesda, MD; a daughter, Aja Gaulden of Newberry, SC; a grandson, Michai Lyles; two devoted brothers, John Leslie Lyles (Thelma) and Rev. James Dufford Lyles (Linda) of Newberry, SC; a cousin reared in the home as a devoted sister, Rebecca Hodges-Lyles of Newberry, SC along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who mourn his absence but know that he is in God’s presence now.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 2 pm to 6 pm in the parlor of Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Fairview Baptist Church, 6424 SC Highway 34, Newberry, SC.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
