Mr. James Monroe Mayers, Sr., widower of Mrs. Dorothy Young Mayers, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020, at his residence. He was born on April 21, 1931, in Little Mountain, SC, to the late Mr. Pinkney Pedest Mayers, Sr., and the late Mrs. Annie Bowers-Mayers.
James was a veteran of the United States Army and the Korean War. He was retired from GMC Auto Industry as a machine operator.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Mayers; four brothers; and eight sisters.
Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories are the mother of his daughters, Annie Collins of Columbia, SC; one son, James Monroe Mayers, Jr. (Carmen) of Philadelphia, PA; three daughters, Cynthia M. Mayers of Little Mountain, SC, Zelda A. Mayers-Swann of Philadelphia, PA, and Kiara M. Mayers of Little Mountain, SC; twelve grandchildren, Jeanine Mayers Cooper (Kevin), Terrone D. Mayers (Nicole), Bobby Brown, Jr. (Kimberly), Jaquetta Collins, Latifah Collins, Laswone Anderson, Dishon Anderson, D’Marquet Gilliam, Clarissa Jazzmine Collins, Gregory James Collins, Jr., and Ebony S. Mayers; eleven greatgrandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Malinda R. Mayers (Isreal) of Little Mountain, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service with Military rites will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2020 at Providence A.M.E. Church in Little Mountain, SC. Due to the health conditions and concerns, social distancing will be required.
