Joshua Gerome Gary, beloved son of Lily Moody and Bennie Mitchell was born April 24, 1989. He departed this life on December 24, 2022 at his home.
Joshua graduated from Fred T. Foard High School in Hickory, NC. After graduation, he attended Catawba Valley Community College and subsequently transferred his studies to Gardner- Webb University where he majored in Biology.
Joshua loved his family and was a major influence for driving his sisters to successful adventures. He was a great model for academic success and proudly challenged them to “Keep Rising.”
Joshua always utilized his inquisitive nature and analytical skills to secure various advancement opportunities in his career path. His advanced technical expertise led him to employment with Zygo Extreme Precision Optics where his talent was greatly appreciated by his employer. He was a very studious young man, always looking ahead, never looking back. If there was ever a “No”, he always asked, “Why not?”
Joshua was an avid reader. When asked about why he loved to read, he said, “Reading was like watching tv, if you don’t like the channel, you can always switch to something else.” During his high school years, he received various awards and accolades for his artistic ability and talents.
He took time to enjoy life as he loved to travel. Some of his latest travel was with his girlfriend (Carmen Ye) to Hawaii. Joshua lived to the fullest as he challenged his family to the newest adventure of skydiving. He lived his life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Simpson and Eula Gary, Bill and Jackie Campbell, one aunt, Glenda Williams, four uncles, Willie Gary, George Mitchell, Griffin Mitchell and Keith Moody.
Joshua is survived by his mother, Lily (Anthony) Moody and his father, Bennie Mitchell; grandmother; Susie M. Mitchell, three sisters; Kaitlyn R. Stinson (Franklin), Lilianna M. Moody, Shaneka Summers, one brother, Derand Summers, eight aunts, Eula Rivers, Ann Shokpeka, Loretta Mitchell, Susie Mitchell, Monique Toliver, Darlene Williams, Teri Washington, Loreli Fields, six uncles, Ray Gary, Freddie Gary, Robert Gary, Melvin Gary, Jimmie Mitchell and Darphurs Mitchell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and brother.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 3 to 6 pm in the parlor of Wilson Funeral Home, 64 Boundary St. Newberry, SC 29108.
Funeral Services for Mr. Joshua Gerome Gary are scheduled for Friday, January 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary of Belmont Baptist Church, 301 Belmont Church Rd, Silverstreet, SC 29145.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
