Mr. Larry Donell Bookman

Larry D. Bookman, 69, was born on December 10, 1952, in Newberry County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Leroy and Louise Chapman Bookman. He departed his life on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Prisma Baptist Hospital, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Larry was educated in the Newberry County School System. He was employed by Allied Chemicals (Canteen) for twenty-six years.

Larry loved playing baseball with the community league. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. He loved listening to oldies and the Steve Harvey Morning Show. He loved cooking! His chicken wings and fried fish were the best! He always dressed the part, with matching shoes and hat. He was the Founder and First President of Brothers United.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Javis Jerome Mayers (J.J.), three brothers, James A. Bookman, Genesis Bookman and John Bookman, and one sister; Shirley Bookman Young.

Left to cherish his precious memories: two sisters, Willie Lee Clark of Little Mountain, SC (a motherly sister and caregiver), Cassandra B. (Charles) Young of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Bruce (Geraldine) Bookman of Little Mountain, SC; two sons, Demarcus Newborn of Lake City, FL, and Tequi Davis of Irmo, SC; one grandson, Demarcus Newborn, Jr. of Lake City, FL; one daughter-in-law, Tara Hill Mayers; a close nephew, Stanley Clark of Irmo, SC; one aunt, Dorothy Davenport of Columbia, SC; three close friends; Samuel Patterson, J.W. Reeves, and Willie Ruff; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 17, 2022 from 1 to 6 pm in the parlor of Wilson Funeral Home, 64 Boundary St, Newberry, SC 29108.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in the sanctuary of Mt. Zion A.M.E Church, 119 Mt. Zion Circle, Little Mountain, SC 29075.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
