Lawson “Shine” Samuel, Jr., was born February 19, 1948, to the late Lawson Samuel and Annie Lee Samuel. He departed this life on November 25, 2021, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.
During his spare time, he enjoyed working on automobiles, racing cars, gardening, and enjoying his grandchildren. He had the best laugh and an amazing smile. He was an avid storyteller and had the best jokes. He loved his family and never met a stranger. He was known for assigning his “own” nicknames to nieces and nephews. His favorite words were “Yeah” and “Sho”! He was a graduate of Gallman High School Class of 1965. He was also a Vietnam Veteran in the United States Army. During his years in service, he received the following Military awards: National Defense Service Medal and Parachute Badge. He retired from American Fiber and Finishing of Newberry, South Carolina.
Lawson was predeceased by his loving wife, Cynthia Anne Samuel, sisters Gussie Mae Bookman, Bonnie Wilson, Katie Samuel-Robinson and brothers Eugene Samuel, Ernest Rikard and James Phillip Samuel.
He is survived by his children, Vontresa “Tracy” Samuel, Niesha Latara Samuel; two grandchildren, Chauncey “CJ” Hardrick, Jr. and Canaan Malachi Hardrick; siblings Kathy Brooks of Columbia, SC, Henrietta Samuel, Phyllis Ann Ruff, Rodney Wise, all of Newberry, SC, Kenneth Samuel (Jannie) of Prosperity, SC; Sister-In-Laws, Alberta Rikard, Barbara J. Samuel, Freda Rhone and Catherine Anne Gray-Samuel; Brother-In-Laws, Johnathan Ray Swittenburg, John Swittenburg and Leroy Robinson; Uncles, John Jones of Whitmire, SC, James Jones of Clinton, SC; Aunt, Queen Ester Jones of Philadelphia, PA, Great-Aunt, Hannah Wilson of Newberry, SC; a devoted friend, Mildred D. Simpkins; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends he loved dearly.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 1 to 7 PM at Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Old Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 3458 Beaver Dam Creek Rd, Newberry, SC 29108.
Interment will be held 11AM on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
