Mr. Orville Harmon Sr. Obituary

Mr. Orville Harmon Sr. died Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at the MUSC Medical Center in Charleston, SC. He was born on May 17, 1970, in Prosperity, SC, to the late Mr. Foracene Harmon and Mrs. Carrie Dewalt Harmon.

Orville made himself known everywhere he went. He had a love for sports that began on the Prosperity Pirates softball team. He was a member of the class of ‘88 Mid-Carolina High School where he participated in different sports and was a drummer on the Mid-Carolina Royal Regiment Band. Orville was also an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Orville grew up working for his father’s company, Harmon Plumbing. He was always fond of trucking that led to his twenty plus year career as a truck driver. He obtained his CDL and became an entrepreneur in his own right. Mr. Harmon was predeceased by one son, Lamar Harmon; one daughter, Ma’Kayla Harmon; and one brother, Vincent Harmon. Mr. Harmon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved people and especially his family.

Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories include his wife of twenty-three years, Patsy Mayers Harmon; four daughters, Meagan O.L. Harmon of the home, Janika Mendenhall of Greenville, SC, Brandee Lyles of Irmo, SC, and Tikila P. Mayers of Columbia, SC; one son, Orville “Duke” Harmon Jr. (Turner) of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Zariah Mayers, Aubran Praylow, Orville Harmon III and Carter Orville Herndon; mother-in-law, Barbara J. Cannon of Newberry, SC; five brothers, Audre Harmon of Newberry, SC, Foracene Laconzia Harmon (Kathy) and Urundy Harmon (Dana) of Prosperity, SC, Cedrick Davis (Nikki) of Blair, SC, and Tori Toland of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Aileen Miller of Chapin, SC, and Trina Harmon of Prosperity, SC; seven aunts, including a devoted aunt, Mary Ann Mobley of Saluda, SC, Earnestine Dewalt and Mamie Ruff of Newberry, SC, Marion Mae Flemon (Thomas), Norma J. Mayers, Dorothy Mayers, Gloria J. Mayers (Henry); two uncles, Curtis Dewalt (Susan) and Willie Dewalt (Bessie) of Newberry, SC; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Chapman (Demetrious) of Pomaria, SC, Alexandria Keunna Freeman of Newberry, SC, and Hope Malinda Williams of Pomaria, SC; three brothers-in-law, Curtis Mayers of Newberry, SC, Vardry Freeman (Loretta) and Sonnie Van Anthony Freeman (Amanda) of Greenville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including two devoted friends, Kevin Lathrop and Calvin Edwards

The family will receive friends at the home, 14084 C. R. Koon Hwy, Newberry.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Newberry County Shrine Club, 196 Shrine Club Road, Newberry, SC 29108. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens, 15127 C. R. Koon Hwy, Newberry, SC 29108.
