For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!
- Romans 8:38-39
Annette Lane was born in Pomaria, South Carolina on August 11, 1943. She was the fifth of eight children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Foster and Ethel Williams. During her early years, Annette was considered to be a clever and loving child, and she grew to become a faithful member of the St. Mark A.M.E. Church.
It was during her school days that she met Malverse Lane, whom she went on to marry after completing high school in 1963. Annette then moved to New York City with her husband where she gave birth to her two daughters, Bridgett and Shawn. It was there that she also began her thirty year career as a check and coding operator for JPMorgan Chase Bank. Throughout these years, Annette remained deeply connected to her South Carolina family and church community, always referring to Pomaria as home. In 2001, Annette returned to her family in South Carolina and reconnected with her community once more.
As time passed, Annette became a genuine matriarch and was considered to be the backbone of her family. Annette loved her family without wavering all the days of her life and from the abundance of her heart, she gave to them without question. The love she had for those in her life flowed from the love of Jesus she had in her heart. Lovingly known as “Mama”, she is described by her children and grandchildren as devoted, selfless, a servant, charitable, warm-hearted, considerate, genuine, elegant, compassionate, loyal, kind, and eager to serve. To those who had the honor of knowing her, Mama was pure love.
Annette is loved and survived by her husband, Malverse Lane Jr. of Pomaria, SC; two daughters, Bridgett Walton (Lindsay) of Irmo, SC and Shawn Smith (Will) of Chapin, SC; two brothers, Foster Williams (Eva) of Irmo, SC and Stanley Williams (Pam) of Bronx, NY; eight grandchildren: Aaron Walton (Krystal) of Columbia, SC; Ashley Gantt (Trevor) of Tampa, FL; Paul Walton (Kyra) of Columbia, SC; Monty Phillip of Columbia, SC; Lindsay Blount (Roman) of Cornelius, NC; Oshajuan Phillip of Columbia, SC; Gabriel Phillip of Columbia, SC; and Kyle Clark of Columbia, SC.
She also leaves behind a lineage of nine loving great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members who have been touched by her life.
Annette transitioned to be with the Lord on December 21, 2023 and will be dearly missed by her loved ones. Her family will continue to honor her memory by their love and devotion to one another, all the while eagerly awaiting their reunion with her in the age to come.
