Mrs. Barbara (Fleming) Whitmore

Mrs. Barbara J. Whitmore 84, beloved wife of Robert Whitmore Jr. was born on June 7, 1939 in Peak, SC to the late Queenie Trapp and the late June Devine. She quietly passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Whitmore attended Booker T. Washington High School and was employed in Jersey City, New Jersey as a Dry Cleaner assistant. After working a little while, her husband decided it was best for her to leave work, stay home and become a housewife taking care of him, their beautiful children and the home. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church located in Newark, New Jersey. She will be remembered as a loving caring woman of God and a woman who would tell you exactly how she felt.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank Fleming and Johnny Fleming along with a sister, Louise Williams.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Robert Whitmore Jr. her children, John Robert Jr., Lucinda Diane, Barbara Ann, Haskell, Robert III, Queenie Pearl, Morrell and Lori; grandchildren, great grandchildren, two nephews, Eric Williams and Johnnie Fleming Jr., sisters-in-law, Lillian Fleming and Janie Mae Diggs; a brother-in-law, Mackie Whitmore and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 2-6 pm in the parlor of Wilson Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whitmore will be conducted on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary of St. Paul AME Church, 1945 Hope Station Rd, Pomaria, SC 29126.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
