Mrs. Cora Scurry-Braxton Obituary

The Sunset was January 1st, 2022 for our beloved Sister, Aunt, Family and Friend.

Mrs. Cora Scurry- Braxton was born to W. H. Scurry and Lola Bell “Doll” Wilson Scurry who preceded her in death. Cora Scurry- Braxton attended Drayton High School, from where she graduated in Newberry, South Carolina. Cora Scurry- Braxton relocated to Rhode Island, where she met the love of her life Mr. Clarence “PA” Braxton.

Cora Scurry-Braxton accepted Christ at an early age, but united with Mr. Clarence “PA” Braxton and accepted Christ in union at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. They both worked faithfully on the Usher Board #2 until their health declined.

Cora Scurry-Braxton worked for Cook County School of Nursing for 35 years where she later retired.

Cora Scurry-Braxton enjoyed her life to the fullest. Her hobbies were playing cards, going to the Casino and Horse Track Racing, Dancing, Traveling and being with her family.

 Cora is survived by her three sisters, Hattie, Vera and Bessie; one brother, Rev. Johnny M. Scurry; one brother-in-law, Luther Ward; four sisters-in-law; seven nephews and a host of great nieces; great nephews; many relatives and friends.

During Cora’s illness she had two nephews, Luvette and Ron that took care of her along with Vera, until the end and she will forever have a special place in their hearts.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Braxton will be held 12 noon on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Little River Baptist  Church. Rev. Johnny Mack Scurry, Eulogist.
