Mrs. Eleanor Jeter Jones, daughter of the late Mr. Green Jeter and the late Mrs. Ola Pope Jeter, was born July 18, 1928, in Newberry, South Carolina. She entered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at her residence. She was a member and mother of New Covenant Christian Center of Newberry, SC.
Mrs. Jones was formerly employed with White Oak and Newberry County Council On Aging. Later she did private duty nursing where she continued to care for the loved one of others. Recently, she volunteered with Newberry County Council On Aging as a representative to call and check on the sick and shut in.
Eleanor was a God fearing woman, a praying mother, and a devoted Christian. Anyone who knew her knew that she was a sweet person whose heart was full of love. Her home was always open and she never met a stranger. It was common for everyone in the community to call her “Mom” and “Grandmom”. She lived a very rich and fulfilled life and she will truly be missed.
Her husband, Thomas Jones, Sr.; one son, Curtis Jones; one daughter, Gwendolyn Jones; and nine siblings preceded her to Heaven. She is the last surviving member of her family.
Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories include three sons, Thomas Jones, Jr. of Newberry, SC, Albert Jones (Yvonne) of Prosperity, SC, and Tyrone Jones (Erica) of Newberry, SC; four daughters, Patricia Harvey (Richard) of Newberry, SC, Janice Bass (Garland) of San Antonio, TX, Penelope Wright (Collins) and Annette Mays (Desi) of Newberry, SC; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Alice Lake of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1416 Magnolia Terrace, Newberry, SC.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Saint Matthew Baptist Church, 61 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC. Burial will follow in Werts Cemetery in Newberry, SC.
