Mrs. Ella Mae James

Mrs. Ella Mae James entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 12, 2019, at her residence. She was born in Newberry, SC, on December 29, 1938, to the late Mrs. Sophie Houston Scott and the late Mr. John Williams. Ella was raised in the home of her mother and step father, the late Willie Lewis Scott.

She was a 1956 graduate of Gallman High School and was a member of Trinity A.M.E. Church and the Woman’s Home Aid Society Lodge #6.

She had a special talent for painting, as a seamstress, for putting puzzles together, fishing and expressing love. Ella was predeceased by four brothers, Willie Sheppard, Thomas Ruff, Roger Scott and Fredo Scott.

Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories include one stepson, James Junior James (Tekmma) of Laurens, SC; four step daughters, Dianne James (Johnnie) of Mountville, SC, Sara Shorter of Newberry, SC, Elsie James and Dora James of Laurens, SC; fifteen step grandchildren; twenty-two step greatgrandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild; one sister, Rosetta Scott Elmore (Rev. Willie) of Newberry, SC; a devoted niece, Sherri Scott; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Sheppard and Irene Scott of Newberry, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including two devoted friends, Dorothy Sanders and Cynthia Wallace.

The family will receive friends at the home, 673 John Waldrop Road, Newberry.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Saint Matthew Baptist Church, 61 Boundary Street, Newberry. Burial will follow in Trinity A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Newberry. 

The family requests, there will be no public viewing for Mrs. Ella Mae James.
