Mrs. Gwendolyn Evon Harrell Jenkins, beloved Mother of Shevonna Jenkins entered into the arms of Jesus peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2022 at Lexington Hospice House. Mrs. Jenkins was born on June 6, 1957 in Windsor, NC to the late Joseph R. Harrell and Erma Heckstall Harrell.
Evon attended Windsor County schools and after graduating high school, she decided to move to Brooklyn, New York, where she was employed by Brooklyn Denim Company. Afterwards, she met the love of her life Mr. Julious Jenkins and the two married, moved to Newberry and celebrated 42 years together. She worked for K-Mart for many years and later became employed with Newberry Hospital where she retired after 19 years of working as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
She was a dedicated member of James Hopewell Baptist Church, where she served on many auxiliaries including the Gospel Choir, Usher Board, Trustee Board and the church Secretary. She loved the Lord her church family and worked tirelessly in the church serving the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Evon was preceded in death by her loving husband Julious Jenkins and a brother, Curtis Harrell; one brother in law, Robert Jenkins of Eutawville, SC
She leaves behind to cherish precious and loving memories her beautiful daughter, Shevonna Jenkins of Newberry, SC; three sisters, Erma Brockington (Darryl), Alice Garrison (Steve) and Gloria- Jean Freeman (Ricky) all of Windsor, NC; four brothers, Larry Harrell (Bobby), Charles Harrell, Phillip Harrell and Joseph Harrell all of Windsor, NC; a special niece, Octavia Bullock of Greensboro, NC; three brothers in law, Lawton Jenkins (Jadell) of Columbia, SC, Ernest Jenkins (Thelma) and William Jenkins all of Eutawville, SC; a son in love, Willie Sims; two God daughters, Kameeka Wilson and Elizabeth Williams; two Godsons, KT and KJ Robinson; a God granddaughter, Sha’Rayah Johnson; two fury canine friends, Cookie and Bronze and a host of nieces, nephews other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday December 14, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday December 15, 2022 at James Hopewell Baptist Church, 275 Hopewell Church Rd Newberry, SC.
Interment will be held Saturday at Heckstall Family Cemetery in Windsor, North Carolina.
