I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
II Timothy 4:7
Mrs. Maggie Lee Baxter was born to the late Leroy Mathis and the late Nellie Werts Mathis. During her final hours on this troubled earth, she was surrounded by the love of her children. She went home to be with her heavenly father on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC.
Maggie was a faithful member of the Renwick Grove Baptist Church, where she served as Chairman of the Deacon board and a member of the Senior Choir. Maggie was ordained as a deaconess on February 7, 1988, becoming the first deaconess of the New Enoree Baptist Association. She was a proud member of the Women Aid Society #2, New Enoree Baptist Association Mass Choir, New Enoree Baptist Association Usher Ministry, Involved Citizen of Helena and New Enoree Baptist Association Missionary, where she managed public relations. Above all Maggie loved spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking for others, traveling, and taking care of her flowers. She attended the public schools of Newberry County. Maggie was employed at Damon International for 20 years. She later retired from Walmart Distribution Center, after 25 years.
Maggie was predeceased by her husband, Richard Baxter Sr; her son, Richard Baxter Jr.; and great-grandson, Armon D. Wright.
Cherishing her precious memories are two sons O’Brian G. Baxter and Jermaine L. Baxter; two daughters Jacqueline (Ray) Singley and Sharon (James) Boyce; 12 grandchildren, Brandy Mathis, who was reared in the home, Richard Baxter III, Shaina Baxter-Fuller, Ashley Basnight, Sharae Baxter, Nigel Boyce, Rishawn Harmon, Devin Harmon, Jerqwon Baxter, Jershaunti Baxter, Jershawn Baxter, and Tariyah Baxter; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters Azalee Mathis, Bessie Mathis, Mary Stone and Delores (Milton) Jones; one brother Robert (Maggie) Mathis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
