Mrs. Mattie Alice Bivens Houseal, widow of Malverse Houseal, Sr. formerly of 450 Four Oaks Road, Little Mountain, SC entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Newberry, SC. She was born on July 17, 1927 in Forest City, N.C. to the late Mr. Jessie Bivens and the late Mrs. Emma Williams Bivens Heller. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a member of Saint Paul A.M.E Church in Pomaria, SC and a former member of the senior choir and the pulpit aid.
Mrs. Mattie was predeceased by one daughter, Brenda Kay Houseal.
Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories include two sons, Richard E. Houseal, Sr. (Cynthia) of Wilmington, Delaware and Malverse Houseal, Jr. of Little Mountain, SC; seven daughters, Barbara H. Williams of Pomaria, SC, Emma Sue Houseal of Hayward, California, Patricia Williams (Steve) of Little Mountain, SC, Dorothy M, Holmes (Terrell) of Las Vegas, NV, Janice H. Paolucci (James) of Oakland, California, Harriett A. Flemon (Melvin) of Chapin, SC and Tonya Brooks (Earl) of Little Mountain, SC; nineteen grandchildren, including four reared in the home, Lyrongala Houseal, Marcus Harmon, Senekeya Smith and Hykeim Brooks; forty-five great grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; one aunt, Mrs. Willie Houseal of Little Mountain, SC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Narvis Cook of Little Mountain, SC; and a host of nieces and great nieces, nephews and great nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at 2906 Holy Trinity Church Road, Little Mountain, SC.
Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Saint Paul A.M.E Church in Pomaria, SC. Due to current health concerns, the family asks that you wear a mask and observe social distancing requirements.
