Mr. Samuel Dewalt, Jr., entered eternal rest at his residence on Friday, April 11, 2025. He was born on October 10, 1946, to the late Mr. Samuel Dewalt, Sr., and the late Mrs. Edna Mae Harmon Dewalt in Newberry, SC.
Samuel attended Gallman High School, where he received his GED. Afterward, he moved to Woonsocket, RI, with his sister, Carrie Mae Gray, and other family members. His first job was at Foundry in Whitinsville, MA. He later worked at Aetna Bridge in construction in RI until his retirement. Samuel was one of the founding members of The Tyra Club in Woonsocket, RI, and remained a full member until his health declined. Samuel returned home in November of 2023 to spend the rest of his life.
Samuel was a member of Sons of Aid Lodge# 6. In his younger years, he played football for the Tyra Club. He loved soul music and fishing. During his visits home, he would go hunting with his brothers and loved being outside. He would also try to visit many of his old classmates when he was visiting home. Samuel was a big Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tanya Scurry, sister, Carrie Mae Gray, brothers John Willie Dewalt and George Dewalt, and Stepson James Moore.
Samuel leaves to cherish his precious memories a loving wife Julie Moore of Newberry, SC; one son, Bradley Dewalt of Woonsocket, RI, two granddaughters Kanani Scurry of Providence, RI and Dream Laferriere of Woonsocket, RI; one grandson J’Neal Bradford of Woonsocket, RI, one stepson Jordan Gavin Moore (Lauren) of Nottingham, ENG, three sisters Mabel Dewalt Bouknight, Doris Dewalt Sheppard (James) and Cynthia Wallace (Charles) of Newberry, SC; one brother Robert Lee Dewalt of Cumberland, RI; two step sisters; Willa Brown and Hazel Starks of Newberry, SC; five step granddaughters, Chanijah, Casey, Chanae, Billie and Georgia of Nottingham, ENG., host of other relatives that will miss him dearly.
Visitation 1-5pm Monday, April 21, 2025, Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 2pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Trinity AME Church, Newberry, SC
Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
