On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, our beloved Sister Sarah Mayes Cuttino received and welcomed the summons of her Creator. She transitioned at East Cooper Medical Center, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Born October 31, 1958, in Newberry, South Carolina, Sis. Sarah M. Cuttino was the daughter of the late Mr. Willis Mayes, Jr., and Mrs. Lillie Crump Mayes.
She received her secondary education at Reuben Elementary School located in Silverstreet, South Carolina; Bush River Elementary School located in Newberry, South Carolina; and was a graduate of Newberry High School, Class of 1976, Newberry, South Carolina. She furthered her education at Piedmont Technical College located in Greenwood, South Carolina. With special interest in and love for children, Sister Cuttino’s curriculum of study was in Early Childhood Education-101.
Most recently, for seven years, the Charleston County School District employed Sister Cuttino as a Food and Nutrition Management Specialist. She had also been employed as a para-professional at Reuben Elementary School as well as at Childhood Services of Newberry, South Carolina.
She was married on December 10, 1994, to the late Pastor James Cuttino, Jr. She was very devoted to her marriage, her children nurturing them through her love for cooking, eating, and serving exquisite meals which she learned from the cooking shows! Sister Cuttino also loved flowers, spending much time in her garden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor James Cuttino, Jr; her parents: Mr. Willis Mayes Jr. and Mrs. Lillie Crump Mayes; and a brother, Mr. Larry Mayes.
To ever cherish lasting memories are her daughters: Ms. Peyton Cuttino of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Ms. Devin Mayes of Crosshill, South Carolina; Four grandchildren: Isaiah Grant, Aliyah Grant, Joshua Grant, and Elijah Grant, all of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Three sisters: Mrs. Debra Mayes-Gamble of Cross Hill, South Carolina, Mrs. Shirley Johnson (Charlie) of Columbia, South Carolina and Mrs. Delores Mayes-Pitts (Leonard) of Cross Hill, South Carolina; Three brothers: Willis Mayes, III of Silver Street, South Carolina, Porterfield Mayes, Sr. (Norma) of Newberry, South Carolina and Nathaniel Mayes of Cross Hill, South Carolina. There are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and sympathizing friends.
