Mr. Willie (Billy) Dariel Galloway was born May 31, 1955,to the late Ethel M. Holman Galloway and was adopted by James J. Galloway. He followed the stars that God lit in the sky as porch lights to guide him Home on July 20, 2023.
Billy was born in Prosperity, South Carolina, and graduated in 1973 from Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Delaware. He joined the Army where he was awarded the National Defense Service Marksman Medal. Billy loved photography and painting. He had a rich baritone voice and enjoyed singing and karaoke. Billy played the bongos, congas, and guitar, was skilled in carpentry, and was an avid fisherman. He will be missed during family gatherings because he enjoyed family time and always looked forward to family cookouts at the home of his Aunt Juanita Wood. He will be remembered for arriving fashionably late and being the last to leave.
Billy accepted Christ as his Savior in October of 2019 and attended Stover Chapel AME Church on Communion Sundays. He was loved by his neighbors who remember him as humble and helpful. Billy was preceded in death by his parents Ethel and James Galloway, his biological father Albert Whortenberry, Sr., and two grandnieces Brielle and Phoenix Ambrose.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings: Cynthia (Richard, Sr. –Brittany and Richard, Jr.) Houseal of Wilmington, DE; Teresa (Alfunzo) Clark of Little Mountain SC; Amy (daughter Deijah) Goudy of Charlotte, NC; Al (Shoshanna – Aidan, Avery, and Asher) Whortenberry, Jr. of Chicago, IL; Philip Whortenberry of Chicago, IL.; Dana (Warren) Harding - Season Williams & Kelvin Jackson; Donna (Anthony) Newell - Malik Willoughby, Tarik Willoughby, and Ronnell Johnson. He leaves to mourn his beloved goddaughter Alicia Brimfield, a devoted and cherished friend, Brenda Watts, and many other loving friends and relatives.
A Service of Remembrance for Mr. Willie D. Galloway will be conducted on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of Stover Chapel AME Church, 1450 Geraldine Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.
Inurnment will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with military honors.
