Mr. Willie Albert Sims peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on April 10, 2025, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was born on September 25, 1945, in Pomaria, SC to the late Albert Sims and the late Annie Laura Suber Sims. Albert was the fourth child.
Willie Albert joined St. Mark A.M.E. Church at an early age. He graduated from Gallman High School in 1965 and received his bachelor's degree in 1973 from Allen University. His professional career began as a student teacher in Columbia, SC, after he moved to Knoxville, where he taught fourth grade at the Knox County School District until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Grady Sims, Williams Sims, Robert Lee Sims, James Earl Sims, Howard Sims, and Paul Sims, two nephews, Grady Sims and Brian Sims, and many other close relatives and friends.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters, Mrs. Eva Curry and Mrs. Mary Ann Johnson (Reggie), Devoted nephews, Stanley Curry, Ronald Curry, and Albert Wright. Adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special friends, Mr. Larry Caldwell and Mr. Kenneth Lane. Along with his Tennessee Family, where he spent over 50 years, Annie Lee Jackson (Lockey), Barbara Jean Hill, Brenda Summerour, Lena Johnetta Mooreland, Gene McKissic, Leon Colvin, James Caroline, Jackie Lee, Godson Chris Lee, God Grandson Cameron Lee. His heartbeat Diane Daniels. Chris and Ryan who were so dear to his heart and will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held 12-5pm Friday April 18, 2025, Wilson Funeral Home Newberry, SC.
Graveside service will be held 1pm Saturday April 19, 2025, St. Mark AME Church Pomaria, SC.
