Wyman Burton was born on October 6, 1945, in Newberry, South Carolina, to the late John Amos and the late Evelyn Henderson Burton. He was the fourth of nine children. Wyman peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Hospice of Laurens after an extended illness.
Drafted into the United States Army, Wyman was deployed to Vietnam in 1968, where he faithfully served his country until 1971. His mother, known for her firm guidance, instilled in him a strong, committed work ethic that shaped every endeavor he undertook throughout his life.
Wyman was employed with Damon International, where he developed a large and loving work family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at the racetrack, and he was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He deeply loved his family and played an active role in spearheading the annual family memorial tent-out, a tradition he cherished.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Smith Burton; his sister, Ardell Burton; and three brothers: Roger Kenneth Burton, Michael Burton, and Robert Lewis Henderson, Sr.
Wyman is survived by one daughter, Alicia Alexandria Burton of Newberry, SC; one son, Duan Lucas Nelson (Melissa) of Newberry, SC; and one grandson, Duane Tyshon Nelson, three sisters: Alma Sullivan (Dennis) of Silverstreet, SC; Robin Dell Bates (Albert) of Newberry, SC; and Lisa Faye Davis (Calvin) of Silverstreet, SC; and one brother, Larry Burton of Newberry, SC.
