Mrs. Dorothy Mae Cannon of 5012 Old Jollystreet Road entered into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was born in Prosperity, SC to the late Sarah Ellen Counts Bookman and the late Ernest Singley.
She was a member of Mount Hebron A.M.E. Church in Prosperity, SC. She was also a Class leader, Stewardess, President of the Missionary Society, A Torch Lighter of the Columbia Conference Women’s Missionary Society, former Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent and she was also a member of the Woman’s Home Aid Society Lodge No. 54.
Mrs. Cannon was a Gallman High School graduate of 1957.
One daughter, Linda Marie Cannon and three brothers, Preston, Furman and Steve Bookman, preceded her to Heaven.
Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories include her husband, Willie Ray Cannon, Sr. of the home; one son, Willie Ray Cannon, Jr. of Newberry, SC; two daughters, Ethel Davis of Newberry, SC and Mary Cannon of the home; three grandsons, Jerome Boyd of Prosperity, SC, Andy Davis of Savannah, Georgia and Joshua Davis of Newberry, SC; a great granddaughter, Anna Belle Davis of Savannah, Georgia; three brothers, John Sweetenburg (Lessie) of Pomaria, SC, Richard Bookman (Bessie) of Newberry, SC and George Bookman (Judy) of Prosperity, SC; three sisters, Bernice Singley, Linda Moore (Wallace) and Teenie Nicholson all of Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers-in-law; John Cannon (Geraldine) and Tommy Cannon (Faye); two sisters-in-law, Ella Holly (Louis) and Mattie Bookman and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including two devoted friends, Essie Mae Sims and Lourine Bates.
The family will receive friends at the home (5012 Old Jollystreet Road, Prosperity, SC)
Funeral service and burial will be conducted 12:00 noon on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Mount Hebron A.M.E. Church in Prosperity, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service).
