Jestine Moon, affectionately known as “Dute”, the daughter of the late James Glasgow and the late Lena Hendrix-Glasgow, was born July 8, 1934 and entered into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, February, 15, 2017.

She was a loving and devoted wife for 42 years to the late Ralph Moon. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and a friend to all. She was a wonderful, caring and giving person who was always willing to help no matter the situation or circumstance. Although Jestine only had three grandchildren and two great-children, she humbly and gladly accepted the affectionate title of “Grandma” from many more. Beyond her love of family and friends, she enjoyed traveling whether near or far - “What time you want me to be ready?” was her motto. She now travels the streets paved of gold.

Early in her life, Jestine accepted Jesus Christ and served faithfully her church and community. A member of Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church and the Mount Moriah Senior Choir, she served as a steward and she was a member of the Evergreen Garden Club and the Woman’s Home Aid Society Lodge No. 23.

She was a retired employee of Louis Rich Company.

Jestine was predeceased by four brothers Willie Mack, James B., James C., and Matthew Glasgow and two sisters Julia Mae Bates and Bernie “Bonnie” Morris.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dorothy Faye Bookman of Newberry, SC; step-daughter, Linda Kilgore (James) of Bronx, New York; one sister, Vera Mae Young of Newberry, SC; two brothers-in-law, Theodore Moon (Betty) of Newark, NJ and Cleotis Moon of Elizabeth, NJ; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Sheppard and Margaret Spencer, both of Philadelphia, PA; three loving and devoted grandchildren Zaneta “Tina” Suber (Jamel) of Fort Mill, SC, Angel Werts and Daniel “ DJ” Bookman both of Newberry, SC; two great-grandchildren Jalen Suber of Fort Mill, SC and Christian Stapleton of Newberry, SC; God-daughter Angela Heller (Samuel) of Irmo, SC; and a host of nieces, including a devoted niece and caregiver Donna Gaffney of Prosperity, SC, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home (2416 Johnstone Street, Newberry, SC).

Funeral service and burial will be held 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church, 1628 Ira Kinard Road, Prosperity, SC 29127 (viewing one hour prior to the service).
